Problem with evinrude engines is they run to lean. If they made them smoke just a little bit I would bet they would stop melting pistons. Go to bassboatcentral and go to the evinrude forum and look at all the posts with problems with etecs. Yamaha site has few to no posts about hpdi problems. Wake up dont just love evinrude because you have one. I own an OMC currently but I can honestly say Yamaha is better.

@01DodgeRAM1500V8 it's not neccessarily one of the slowest motors. Side by side test with Merc and Yamaha, identical Ranger Z-20 boats, identical props.....E-Tec smoked em!

I'm not even running an Evinrude, hell I'm running an old Johnson GT 150

@6zag well basically you know how each engines horsepower range is different the big guns over 200Hp go fast evinrudes dont spin up as high as yamahas and mercury does more rpm with correct prob more speed but not over rev you can get an evinrude to rocket as with any boat engine if you have the brains XD

Thanks man. Evinrude builds awesome motors, but so do mercury and yamaha

You have obviously never been to a FLW tournament have you. After a tournament day go over to the evinrude trailer and those guys have a line of engines to work on. Go over to the yamaha booth and those guys are sippin tea telling stories because they have nothing to do because all there engines are running fine.
