I recently had an eye exam showing Astigmatism, which is something I have pretty much suffered from the day I was born. I remember even as a baby, being wheeled in and being put to sleep having a brain scan done. From an early age I was back and fourth from the hospital because of Astigmatism, and even health centres having an eye exam done routinely to check how my eyes were. This was largely because when trying to focus on an object, I found my head would shake from side to side, people would think I was nodding my head saying no. It was a problem when trying to do things normal kids could do no problem, like colouring in, I couldn't steady my focus and would cause me to shake because of the Astigmatism.

One eye exam after the other, I was told a boy's eyes don't completely develop until they are at least nineteen to twenty one years of age, I had found an improvement over the years with the Astigmatism. Used to be a case when lights would go out and standing in a darkened room, my eyes would shake like crazy, almost as if I was drunk, the room would be spinning and would be difficult to see where I was going. I have found over the years that has slowly died down. I do find however, I need to focus on smaller text and even to what I am typing, because of the movement, my eyes slightly shake a little and sometimes hard to focus because of the Astigmatism.

I was born with a slack eye, in other words crossed eyes, perhaps one eye was stronger in focus than the other, I have always found that I can see better with both eyes, meaning I rely on my other eye to see. If the other is closed, the eye shakes, causing not only slightly blurred vision, but the shaking of the eye making it impossible to see, resulting in the Astigmatism being worse.

I had an eye exam back in 2009 and perhaps has been the only eye exam I have had in years since I was a kid. I find it almost impossible during an eye exam due to the Astigmatism, to make out smaller text and obviously once the other eye is closed, it not only causes the other eye to shake, making it impossible to read, it causes the blurred vision. I found after that eye exam I had to get my first pair of glasses, although they wouldn't really make too much of a difference when using the computer, which I use my laptop a lot. It is perhaps a big reason why I have blurred vision and find my new glasses a massive improvement of seeing things in the distance a lot clearer. Although, useless for using my laptop, the text on screen appears larger to me without the glasses. I'm pretty pleased either way, and at least I am not blind and able to see, despite the Astigmatism causing blurred vision and relying on my other eye. Won't have my next eye exam till next year and looking forward to getting my sun glasses that are being made up with the same lenses.

  • I love your accent :)

  • @geminigrl95 lol thanks Geminigirl :D

  • I know this is off topic, but I love your accent :) and I came here because I was looking for a video example on how astigmatism affects a person's vision at night. It sucks so much when I have to drive and these blotches of light look blurred and stretched out. Yargh.

  • @WPHSBandGeek lol thanks :) and aye for me when I was younger, I found it difficult in a dark room, where my eyes would shake like crazy. It's a very fast shaking, although it looks nothing when I record it to video. The way I see things is like a very fast movement from side to side. For me personally, blurryness was never an issue, but when staring at smaller test, my eyes are always shaking slightly to gain focus, but someone staring at that could probably never see it. Hard to explain.

  • @WPHSBandGeek So am guessing you have Astigmatism yourself? Check the comment below :) In fact later I might put it into the info section, it's a way to try train the eyes better focus I think :)

  • i just got a my first pair of glasses today and i can see far again :)

  • @jeffdunhamfan001 I was seeing slight blurryness in the distance myself, having the glasses to use occasionally, even my prescribed sun glasses, it's a great feeling being able to see clear in distance :)

  • @ScottMcK9 Are you the guy in the video? I had a slight similliar condition, caused by neck injury from a bad chiropractor. Bates method cures many forms of Strabismus. Often caused by strain in the mind, wearing glasses, trying too hard to keep eyes straight, left and right brain hemisphere imbalance from certain hobbies, stress... Can be cured. Go to my website for email address. Will send you all free books. More videos on Amazon.com Dr. Bates Page. Scrool down page of each book.
