Helge Roswaenge performing Lyonel in the movie "Martha" (Letze Rose) (1936, in german) based on the Flotow's opera. With Carla Splatter as Martha and Frits Kampers as Plumkett. Directed by Karl Anton, screenplay by Arthur Pohl. Sorry for the poor quality of the video but this is, in my opinion, more than "golden age", the very core of the legend of singing.

  • Thanks for this clip! I'm happy to find someone who is as big a fan of Rosvaenge as I am. He is probably my favorite of all of the tenors of the last century (or this century so far, for that matter).

  • Yes he Is my favourite tenor. I think nobody like him has been able to sing at the same time and at very top level Tamino, Lyonel, Manrico, Radames and Otello!

Neither Lauri-Volpi. As singer and artist just a word for describing him: immense!

  • A great tenor, voice strong and germanic an example of this strong period

listen to his Fidelio "got welch dunkel. Martha Q/tet. Trovatore Misere

he had a glorious sound as so may german voices have their composers and

their wonderful leider.. are unsurpassed, Thanks for fine example.

  • or is it possible to buy somewhere?

  • @wrk628

He's my favourite TAMINO that's for sure. Have you listened to his Tamino conducted by Toscanini (Salzburg: 30 july 1937), instead of the famous edition with Beecham. . He's absolutely perfect. And as Radames as well. Just yesteday I listened his Radames (with Hilde Zadek as Aida). I love Roswaenge. And I'm proud to have his Tosca too with Hildegarde Ranczac and Georg Hann (october 1944) and a good selection with Maria Reining!!!

  • I feel like I'm in Heaven again!!

Where can i find the full track of this opera ??

    Truly a MASTERPIECEE!!

  • Marvelous voice.

  • It was wonderfull to study parts with him!

  • So what exactly is happening here? I've heard that "Mag der himmel euch vergeben" translates to "May Heaven forgive thee", or something to that effect, but what's the scene about?

  • Prachtig!!!
