Adventures with Pedro The Palmetto Bug

I laugh every time I watch this. After recently moving from Minnesota to Jacksonville, FL, we have been learning about Palmetto Bugs. Basically a cockroach, these are the largest 'bugs' we have ever seen. This video captures the four of us completely entranced by our recent visitor whom we decided to call Pedro The Palmetto Bug. It helps get rid of the heevie jeevies a little(a very little) to name this ginormous bug.

The palmetto bugs arent as smelly or nasty as German cockroackes. However they have a tougher skin. They sometimes will play dead after you whack them once and you'll come back later and it'll be gone. Boric acid is the bomb! Dont listen to anyone who tells you its toxic, you have to eat spoonfuls of it for it to be bad. Puff it anywhere you can get away with it. Also believe it or not a lot of dish soap in a spray bottle with a little water will kill roaches too. They die from being clean.

Welcome to the south. No matter how clean you are, these nasty bugs will get in your house. They usually will die in your house because they can't find their way back outside again and get dehydrated.

People in Florida are so crazy. "Do you want to play with it?" It's a freaking cockroach. Palmetto bug sounds so...non disease carrying, and so non-disturbing for having them all over your house. It's a ROACH! Call it for what it is :P KEEEL THEM!
