Jeepney Magazine editors lead relief mission to site of Quezon City fire, June 27, 2009. Dozens of poor families dispossesses by the fire have cleared away most of the debris and reoccupied their spaces by noon the following day, as children frolic among the twisted sheet metal and charred detritus that is all that remains of their already meager possessions. Jeepney Magazine is a "street paper" representing the poor and homeless residents of Manila, and is sold by homeless vendors who keep have of the cover price, enough to provide a decent meal to a family of four. The magazine and its staff, led by Bill and Deborah Shaw, is the sponsor of the Manila contingent to participate in the Homeless World Cup soccer games in Milan in September, 2009. They also support a pair of Cameroonian refugees who are coaching local players hoping for a spot on the national team. Contributions are welcome.
