I was in the US NAVY, stationed on Lajes, I left two days before the quake. I remember the island and the people well.
Fell in love with them.
I lived in Priar, from 1978 until December 1979.
Tragic from what I have seen in this video.
One day I want to return for a visit.

My dad was stationed at Lajes at the time, and even though I was only 7 years old, I remember that earthquake like it was yesterday...A beautiful island and the friendliest people I have ever known.

I remember that quake, I was only 3 months shy of 5, and was grabbing for a chair. It's the only thing. Sadly it's the only thing I remember from my homeland.
