Me, Dad, Mum and my sister Sophie visited the DFR on Sunday 20th April 2008.

The railway ran a special timetable that day. This was because of engineering works between Norchard High Level and Middle Forge Junction. So rather than full line steam services, 1450 operated Norchard Low Level to Lydney Jcn with the stock, and the DMU Class 108 ran between Norchard High Level and Parkend. It gave me the chance to film, some now rare scenes, such as running around at Low Level and a steam loco leaving Low Level at the front of the coaches.

So here is what we did -

1125 Norchard Low Level to Lydney Junction hauled by 1450
1150 Lydney Jcn to Norchard LL hauled by 1450
1335 Norchard High Level to Parkend DMU service
1405 Parkend to Norchard HL service DMU service
1430 Norchard LL to Lydney Jcn hauled by 1450
1455 Lydney Jcn to Norchard LL hauled by 1450
1530 Norchard LL to Lydney Jcn hauled by 1450
1555 Lydney Jcn to Norchard LL hauled by 1450

  • May I use the audio please? I'll credit you, and wonderful work capturing Oliver the Great Western engine's live counterpart. Not to mention Diesel too.

  • @HankAmericanEngine Yeah sure no worries, could I have a link when your done or to a website if you have one?

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • Ah this won't happen to the DFR because they are stored right outside a shed and Norchard station is in the middle of nowhere lol! They are also planning to build shelter for operational engines.

  • Well, a railroad was being torn up, and a group bought about three miles of track, and had an original steam loco still lying around, there was no shed and they ran and stored her outside, as it happened people broke in and stole pieces off the locomotive when she was down, and she couldn't run, and the elements were not kind to her. Then they bought another loco, and the same thing happened.

  • What do you mean, what happened?

  • There was a railroad here that did that, all three of there steam locomotives can't run anymore. Makes me worry about the DFR.

  • All right thanks!

  • Norchard. Their isn't a shed as such. There is a restoration/overhaul shed where locos, wagons, coaches are repairs and overhauled. The operational engines are kept outside this.
