Warning: there is minor strong language in this video.

I've had the idea to make "Open Source Cola" (seemingly now known as "OpenCola") or other carbonated beverages for a while. The only challenge was that of carbonating the water for use in such things. Although, I suppose it will be interesting--much more so than the Low End Mac and Cheese--to see where I can get the ingredients I need to make the cola...

The SodaStream machine is not a new idea, but I saw it for the first time in a department store catalog and thought it would be interesting. It actually dates from the early 1900s and was seemingly very popular in the 1970s and 1980s. I asked for and received one as a Christmas present.

Yes, I know there are cheaper ways to do the same thing and that this is something of a specialty item. No, you don't need to tell me that. I already made club soda (unflavored carbonated water) with dry ice shards, back around the time we had dry ice in the house.

The "shit list" reference that 'furhead makes toward the beginning of this video has to do with a notepad he gave me as a gift. It shows up toward the end of the video, although it is partially obscured. Printed on the notepad are various spaces for transgressions, the name of the person who was responsible and what sort of action will be taken to avenge the transgression.

I'll bet you didn't know that 'furhead had such an excellent evil laugh!

  • you guys like to pick on your cat

  • @bscross32 Kitty lives a very good life. Although we like to joke around, and furhead has put the cat on his head a few times, we'd never hurt or abuse her.

  • I would like to try the tobasco sauce. Sounds fun. What does the machine run on? Is it just power or do you have to put like CO2 tanks in it?

  • @luke4090 The machine does not require electricity. It uses a CO2 canister mounted inside the back cover. There are large and small canisters available.

  • Have you tried making carbonated Listerine yet?

  • @vwestlife I'm not sure there is any in the house. :-)

I've heard it said in numerous places that carbonated milk is good. That's the only experiment I am likely to try.

  • @skypedog221 I think you're missing the point. While you have the good fortune to be alive, you should do the things that interest you, even if they're not always the most practical option.

  • lol, merry christmas :)
