It amazes me that there is still enough demand for this type of travel that merits 17 Amtrak cars be used!

Nice, What a long fast train. Never saw the Autotrain before.
-
That is fast. Thanks!!

"Highball" generally refers to a clear signal. One of the earliest US railway signals was a large ball hoisted up on a pole to indicate to a waiting train that it could proceed.

@jfsa380 Auto Train does not have to climb steep grades and mountains like a lot of the Western Amtrak services, that's why.
OK thanks for your reply to my comment however to me auto-train is what is being phased in on some of the freight trains operating in the far north west of west australia these are driverless trains running from the mines to the port railhead and controlled from a central control point also on trains such as the Ghanfrom Adelaide to darwin where there is 1or 2 car carrier units for passengers cars
pls remember that NOT all people who look at your videos are familiar with your local trains

Not as fast as the Silver trains.

Actually its the same...execept he didn't have to slow down for a station stop at JAX like the Star & Meteor have to.

And also as far as the Silver trains go, we dont start slowing down at Dinsmore....which is still 4 miles from the station. We slow down at Soutel.
