Hippies rock.

I love how so few people realize what is happening in the West and the world for that matter. This is a prime example of how close America is to a Police State. If only the Founding Fathers could see this. Those who don't fight for Liberty do not deserve it...who was is that said that again?

Easy, send burly cop climbers up the trees.
Handcuff and hogtie the tree sitters. Then attach them to ropes using mountain climbing equipment and pully them down to the Earth.
When they get to the ground, remove the hogtie and keep the cuffs on, then swiftly toss them into an awaiting paddy wagon.
Then off to jail.

The City is being very nice in going through multiple chanels before throwing these asses out. It's gonna happen no matter how many people are in the trees. The campus police will shoot mace paintballs into the trees and let the kids fall into airbags or something. I will go and watch for fun!

I have plenty that is already seasoned. Thanks for the thought:)

The people in the trees are trespassing because the school obviously erected a fence to keep them out. They have no reason to complain. It's like stealing a TV and then complaining that it was broken.
I bet over half of those tree-sitters are high school drop outs or runaways that just want to do drugs all day, anyway. I have no respect for people like that. Cut the trees down.

Yeah, the tree-sitters have the choice of leaving at their own will. They are not being held captive nor against their will.
I've always heard that the people protesting in the trees are not even UC Berkeley students, but the tree-sitters like to mislead everyone into thinking that they are. For that reason, I hope the trees get chopped down soon.
I cut down oaks for firewood all the time. The last was probably one hundred years old--burned great! I prefer 10-40year old trees, but I think I will cut down only large, old growth until the sitters come down.
There are what 300 trees in the grove...? I am going to need some help. Anybody with me?

i understand what you are saying - the protesters can indeed leave whenever they want - the question, then, is what should the authorities be allowed to do to get them down?
Should they be able to:
a) forcefully drag them out of the trees?
b) option a), even if it poses risk of great bodily harm to the protesters?
c) use water canons to force them out of the trees?
d) blare sirens at the protesters?
f) etc.?
