What you can do, so that you can force players to enter the pipes in order, is make it so that at the end of each "mini-level", a pipe takes them under a large gap between two pipes, which they can fill with hidden coin blocks, acting as a bridge to the next pipe. Of course, this would mean that a lot of the level would have to be changed... :)
