This is the spot where the Appalachian Trail begins or ends, depending on which direction you are headed. The trail runs from Springer Mountain, Ga to Maine... 2100 + miles of hiking. Over 2000 " thru hikers " attempt the end to end walk every year, about 200 finish it. Most people drop out in the first 50 -100 miles. This plaque commemorates the spot it begins in Georgia, and was put here in 1934. Also, it is an eight mile hike just to get to the starting point, so this is no easy feat.
Thanks, Jim. This was so cool!
