It was quite different, but I liked what they did with it. It really brings the viewer into the mind of a child, and I felt like every line in the movie held the kind of depth that "mature adult" minds might overlook.

Maurice Sendak loved it! This makes it a "personal" success. Imo, the controversy came because it was TOO simple.

The movie was nothing like this. It went from being a beloved children's story, to an unnecessarily complex drama. They butchered it so much I could barely recognize it.
