H.S. Basketball: John Glenn at West Muskingum (1/17/09)

Coming off two consecutive overtime losses against two of the best teams in the Muskingum Valley League, John Glenn was due for a breakthrough.

Saturday at Ankrum Memorial Gymnasium the ball finally bounced in the way of the Muskies.

Trailing by 12 points at halftime, John Glenn mounted a comeback to knock off first place West Muskingum, 61-55.

Previously John Glenn suffered a pair of heartbreaking overtime setbacks to Maysville and Tri-Valley, but on this night the Muskies showed they would be a team to be reckoned with in the second half of the season.

West Muskingum (6-4, 5-2 MVL) led by as many as 15 points in the second quarter only to falter down the stretch.

John Glenn aggressively attacked the basket to get back into it, finishing the game 21-of-30 from the free throw line. Charlie Karling led three Muskies in double figures with 17 points. Jake Heagen added 13 points and Josh Fraunfelter 12 points, all coming on three-pointers.

The Tornadoes duo of Josh Osborn and Wade Smith each scored 17 points in the loss. Jarred Lynn chipped in a double-double 12 points, 10 rebounds.

The win improved John Glenn to 4-4 in the MVL and 5-5 overall.
