Germany murder sparks fears over anti-Muslim sentiments

Iran has summoned the German ambassador in Tehran to protest the killing of an Egyptian woman in a German court.
Iran's Foreign Ministry has criticized the German government's failure to rapidly respond to the crime. Tehran says Berlin is responsible for the safety of all ethnic and religious minorities on its soil. Iran says that the low profile coverage of the incident is a sign of growing hatred towards the minorities and immigrants in Germany as well as other Western countries. On Thursday, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman, Hassan Qashqavi, condemned Marwa el-Sherbini's cold-blooded murder as a despicable act that violates all human rights and values. The condemnation comes just over a week after el-Sherbini was stabbed to death in a courtroom in the German city of Dresden. The killing over her headscarf has triggered strong public sentiments in Egypt and other Islamic countries. In Iran, hundreds have taken to the streets to show their anger at Sherbini's.
