The hair stage of Sunset. Cut it short because it really did take forever..without speeding it up, the full time for this was 45 min. Had to take some segments out and sped it up double time. Cut out a little near the end but ended it with Dodge...so y'all can see how I do the highlights and such.
I do each step on a different layer...base, shading, highlights, then strands in their respective colors..dark med light...I also place layers BENEATH the figure...to do hair that may be flowing behind them. Doing them on a ton of layers helps me in that I can just nix the layer that I don't like without having to take something away that I may like. It slows down my PS..but at times I can get up to 35 layers in all for a pic. With the hair...when I'm ready to dodge and burn..I simply merge the hair layers together.
Hope it helps:)

  • do u use tablet to draw?

  • Tutorial? :P

  • Would you be willing to consider setting the brushes you made for download? I would love to use them, b/c it's so hard to find usable brushes for detailed artwork, and I'm not skilled enough to make my own quality brushes yet. Please consider. Thank you!

  • I have cs5 hair brushes but i want to have a variety.

  • Have you tried taking Real Hair from a photo and tried that on the avi? Might be interesting to see. For that matter what about Real clothes too? Scary what can be done with a little liquefying :-).

  • i constantly come back to this vid fer inspiration when im frustrated with hair!!
