There's no denying how great these old tube combo's are. They nail the AC/DC tone easily, but for heavier stuff, they need a little bit of help.

For years I wanted a combo amp that would give me the performance of my modified stacks but in a smaller package, so after getting my hands on this 1982 Marshall 4104, I tried the same mods I did to my other Marshall's and was able to extract more gain and add a little more meat. When I got this amp, the preamp section had already been altered with a really poor overdrive mod, which I returned to stock configuration for the first part of the video. The second part of the video lets you hear the amp after I completed my own mods.

By the way...go easy on the criticism, I haven't played much over the past 3 months.

  • Hey, Riffguy. Is it possible for you to send me some of the lick patterns that you use? I notice that when you get into heavy shredding, you've got patterns that you use a lot.

  • @TheTartersauceGuild I don't mean to sound condescending, but given the fact that you can both see and hear what I'm playing in this video.....isn't that enough? When I was learning how to play, I felt lucky to just have a record to learn from. I guess I'm just old school.

  • I have an '82 white 20th Anniversary model (bought new)...awesome amp! I'm curious as to what speakers your's came with...they were available with several different Celestion models. Mine came with the G12T-75's. The louder I crank'em...the better they sound.

  • @ipsofacto297 This one has G12-65's.

  • sounds way better than the original. you must have really low action!!!!

  • @stratct It's higher than what most people like.....I need the guitar to fight back a little bit.

  • I remember trying to lean la villa strangiato with a record deck and lifting the stylus up until i leant those few seconds! You can imagine how long it took back then, people are spoilt these days with You tube, cheap amazing gear and tabs, online lessons etc.

I'm with riffguy on this, ppl never had it so good, wish i had all this back in the day haha!!!

  • Your legato licks make me jealous :D

  • Bad ass guitar payer and HIgh class living right there bitches! Got some Pretty Maids, Ac/DC Van Halen all mixed into one.

  • @riffguy lol. Tell em' When I was growing up, I had to rewind a F'n tape back and forth 100 xs to learn a song! Get a double deck, Record the tape so I could learn on one and stretch it out and have the original for listening! This Youtube shit is great! Fuck, Im old!

  • @riffguy No, it makes sense. I honestly was just looking for an easier way. I won't deny that.

  • Believe it or not, this combo is perfect for some AC/DC tones, approx. from Powerage to Blow Up Your Video. Those albums (and the ones between) were recorded on G12-65s, most of them with master volume marshalls (this first generation JCM800 circuit is almost the exact same thing).

So this combo is the perfect choice for those golden era AC/DC tones as well :)

  • brother do malmsteen rsrsrsrsr

  • Put the guitar down and just do a video of you just pounding some booze
