Tatsushi Arai is associate professor of conflict transformation at SIT Graduate Institute. His current areas of interest include research in Pakistan, dialogues aimed at transforming the underlying discourse of the war on terror in the West, as well as the growing networks of organized militancy in the Afghan-Pakistan context.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event:
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.*

Thoughtful, insightful, and refreshingly sane. Professor Arai's courageous examination of our toxic relationship to the "War on Terror" appears to me to be practical, effective, and badly needed. His presentation suggests that we would profit greatly by engaging two questions: 1) "What underlies events such as 9/11?" and 2) "What, if any, is our part in the dynamics of those events?" Professor Arai's message is important and needs to be heard.
