  • Bill Withers, the original singer/writer. Famous for quite a few songs that everyone knows, just not everyone knows who he is (Ain't no sunshine, Lean on Me).

  • If Eddie Murphy was doing an imitation of a white person singing this song this is what it would sound like.

  • IF I... had an ounce of what mick had in the voice, in taking what he heard in what he found and making the music he did... & coming from where he came from... & musically from the punk beginnings and the politics & the musicians that were part of it. He gave music a voice. Not only that, a beautiful voice too.

  • Whether one grows up in the gutter collecting scrap, or if one if one if abandoned by a parent, this kid has GUTS! I continually praise this talent, how his music has continually brought me to my knees...Mick has what it takes! WE should praise what people have, not what they DO NOT HAVE! I, too was abandoned as a child; I have nothing, to share with the world that is as real and loving as Mick.

    Love to you all,

    Bridgette

  • Well said!

  • see what i'm talkin bout less is more...this is so much better

  • while it isn't the original and will never be close i'm glad it exists as my grandma was a simply red fan and even though i'm not, i listen to this version out of respect of my gandma's taste. to all the haters: imitation is the biggest form of flattery

  • @pastronge Because covering it somehow disrespects his grandma?

  • he does sing it well and is a legend, his early stuff is genius but bill withers wrote in respect for his gran, nobody should be covering it

  • He as a nice voice and his version is not bad, he was abviously inspired by Bill Withers' version which resonates more with me because I too lost my granny in 2010.

Overall a great song that almost anyone regardless of ethnicity can relate to.

  • What is it about Mick Hucknall that brings out peoples vitriol?.....I admire him as a talent, (hes one of my favourite artists actually).....I do seem to notice that he markets himself a little too slickly these days...like the ongoing end of Simply Red as a band....C'mon, he WAS Simply Red...everyone else were side musicians....I guess when you grow up stealing lead from gutters to make ends meet, marketing yourself to the max is appealing.....

  • I initially liked this cover, but I don't like people to change the lyrics-- "Put yourself in the spirit's hand" just doesn't ring true.
