@terrablader It's helpful with 3D art, too... I WANT ONE SO BAD!

I spot some Logitech product =D

your totally right on this. i get frustrated about people who use this to navigate true google earth or something. I use it daily in engineering environment and it works great .. much faster, less rsi!
its a great device

looks like a commecial product than an industrial equipment.
it s like here is your "asd" gamepad which we eliminated the unneccessary buttons...pretty bogus i say

The Space Pilot is great too, my first comment was in regard to the Demo showing the user modeling the Spaceball using the Pilot which was created later. The pilot has an LCD screen on it and switches the mappings per mode or program give you 2 customizations for Part, Drawing and Assembly each.
♠Custom button functions or recorded Alt key combos are stored in the .scg files in Application Data > 3dconnexion folder. Custom Button Functions are stored in text file after BUTTON_CHARACTERS

I have a spacball, but am buying a space pillot your post makes me concerned that newer is not better..

That is a very bad comparisson because in a shooter your mouse is always bound to 3d view so you have no controll over the mouse pointer and you have the other hand on 4 other buttons. This is just to move in 3d space over a 2d plane with up and down turns. With a 3d mouse like space navigator you can move in real 3D while having the mouse free to work with.
In terms of comparrison with a shooter it would be like turning your head irl and be able to look around you.

it think thats like playing an ego shooter with a joypad .. how can this be faster than holding shortcuts and moving the mouse ? this cant be ?!
40% faster doing CAD with spacball period.
And less work on for hand (load sharing), less carparal tunnel..
if you dont do CAD and you commenting on this you don't know what the device is for.

So the space ball type devices are better than the SpacePilot? OK. Well I guess its good to know that now than to go looking for one of these and finding out the hard way.
