The Tea Party Started In 2007 And Ron Paul Is The Godfather

It was started in 2007 from the grassroots by Ron Paul supporters for his 2008 Presidential Campaign. After gaining momentum it was co-opted by certain Republicans with help from Fox News and other corporate entities. It's no longer the spontaneous decentralized movement that it once was though Ron Paul's message of limited government and a return to the Constitution is still at it's core.

@DarkCode That's a cool story but you conveniently left out the fact that we have thousands of nuclear weapons. That's the most powerful deterrent there is. And countries like China that also have nukes know that mutually assured destruction would occur if they attempted to invade us.

Furthermore Dr. Paul wants to be friends with all countries. Also, how would bringing the troops home make an invasion more likely? Seems we're more vulnerable to attack while they're oversees fighting.

It takes a principled leader with a vision to point out the failures of the past and formulate a plan that balances the budget by the end of their first term. Unless Newt was able to motivate people to do more than just show up , then it was a hollow theatrical trick to gain support in a campaign. Say how did the tea party movement go int he mid 90's? The balanced budgets were done by taking from SS.
