I think you're right. It's been a while since I'd seen the movie, but thinking back to a few scenes, it makes sense. When the rafters all get stranded, Snoopy loses Woodstock and has to climb over steep hills and mountainous trails, while howling for him. When the kids are in the cabin, after the snow falls, they're listening to a radio broadcast that warns mountain climbers to wear chains, to which Sally complains, and Lucy straightens her out over why they had to.
