Adam and Kyle, two 10 Year old boys I coach at The Ridge Athletic Track. Sutherland Shire, Sydney, Australia. The main aim of the session was to get consistency. Started at 1.00m with at least three attempts at each height. Raised bar in 5 cm increments to 1.20m. Total session time about 1 hour.
Beautiful Sydney mid-winter day, up to 22 deg. Little wind, unusual for here as Ridge located at top of Illawarra Escarpment.
Used ALDI 10M x6 zoom avi pocket size camera.
Edited on a iMac Duo with iMovie. Compressed with Quicktime avi codec to avi file 292M long. Limit for high quality set by YouTube appears to be time less than 10 minutes.
NB...not a scissors jump to be seen-ALL FLOPPING !!!

Hope Helps,
Ernie Lee

  • Hope these videos may help other coaches and of course boy high jumpers. Stay with it !

    Ernie Lee

  • As you can see, boys have different jumping styles- speed for Kyle, power for Adam.

Another session yesterday was not nearly as good as this one.

No camera ? No YouTube posting ? SCHOOL HOLIDAYS !!!

So, sorry folks you are going to get a regular video with these two boys and their other 10 year training mate, Mitch.

    Ignore if too repetitive.

  • @erniepond1 I'm buying one in which the high jump bar is 5 metres and the landing pit is about 4mx4mx80cm. I think that would be enough, right?

  • @erniepond1 I'll check it out! Thanks for the info. If you got any other tips or info on high jump it'd be great since i'm planning to get one for personal use in 1 week :)

  • @guidodobboletta

There is no standard size. A selection is given in

  • @erniepond1 Thanks! And how long should the landing bag be? (i'm not sure what it is called in english) Thank you!

  • that kid in red shirt needs to curv his back more get him to do flexible streches sometimes but not right before the jumps

  • Hi, two very talented boys: BUT:

I think for just one training this was far too much jumping at this age!!
