3 weeks ago a motorbiker in Toulouse, France was forcibly stopped by two persons on a scooter. They tried to overpower him and steal his Yamaha R6. He fought back and was stabbed twice in the fight. Unaware of his injuries he flagged down a passing motorist and tried to chase the thieves down as they sped away on his bike. But he was soon rushed to a hospital instead...

9 days later, after battling for his life, Frédéric Daigneau died in resus. He was 25 years old. This was the fourth incident of "motorbike jacking" in 2 months in the normally peaceful town of Toulouse.. but the only one where the motorbiker fought back and was killed. The police are yet to make arrests in this regard..

The response from the motorcycling community to this heinous act has been overwhelming. Since Fred's death, motorbikers from all over the area have converged on Toulouse in a poignant and heartwarming show of solidarity and support. This is why I am proud to call myself a motorbiker. It is not about the speed, thrills or the danger. It is not even about the machines but rather about a school of thought. One that values courage and compassion as its highest virtues.

The video here shows the latest and biggest congregation of 1000+ motorbikers meeting in honor of our slain friend. The white bands you see on our arms are the marks we carry of our anger and grief at this senseless murder.

Frederic was attacked in broad daylight at a busy intersection. It could have been any one of us. I was myself on that same road barely 1 hour before the incident. It could have been me who died that day instead of Frédéric.

I hope to be a motorcyclist soon...thanks for the inspiration.
