Diabetes Squared documents my family as I raise my two young kids with diabetes -- the struggles, the tensions, the sheer exhaustion of it all and even the unexpected joys as we team together and just try to keep it together, living with diabetes times 2.
I raised a child who was diagnosed at the age of five. She is now 24 years old and has a number of complications, but is doing very well. I would like to help any parents who feel overwhelmed, as I have learned a tremendous amount both clinically and as a parent.

Hey I am a kid in 6th grade who was just diagnosed in October and when I found out my blood was over 630 I didn't think it was that bad until my mom told me that is high enough to go into DKA. I probably lived with it for a while without knowing so idk what my official highest is. Comment on my channel ( cause I won't be back on this vid ) and tell me your highest blood sugar is 630 a lot? So anyways I would like to know. Thanks :)

My son was diagnosed in July of this year (DKA) @ the time...5 months and still learning!! Has been a wild ride!! His twin brother will be tested next year... School has been a real challenge making them understand that type1 is different from type 2..Quite a few of the teachers are type 2 diabetics and don't understand the difference...People just assume they are the same!! So I totally understand your frustration...

Thank you Elizabeth for clarifying the 2 different kinds of diabetes. I just hate when after I tell someone my 2 children and I have type 1 diabetes and they always say "my grandma has that". I wish they would rename our diabetes. None of us are fat and eat unhealthy. My baby was 11 months old when she was diagnosed and my now, teen was 8 and diagnosed the day we found out we were having our baby. God chose us to be mother's of our diabetic children because he loves us and knows we won't give up

Thank you!! I am sick of people saying "You have a bad diet, that's why you have diabetes" I will send them this link and prove to them that my diet is healthy!! :)

I know just what you are going through! My 5 yr old was diagnosed with diabetes when he was only 15 months old, and last year his half brother was also diagnosed at age 14. My sons dr told me that they are seeing more and more families with more than one child being diagnosed with diabetes.

@nolimetangere21 I have two kids with Type 1 diabetes and when I suspected that my second had diabetes, I checked her blood sugar and when her BS was 425, I re-tested and it was 385, so I checked for ketones and she had trace ketones. I wouldn't suggest constantly checking your other kids BS, but I would check for ketones and talk with your child's pediatrician. Good Luck! From one D parent to another!

How did you know the 2nd one was Type 1 as well? My 6 year old will be diagnosed 1 year this month and lately I have been noticing changes in my 3 year old similar to what I noticed in her. I tend to get paranoid about things though! I know they say the siblings aren't likely to get it, but I have a very old friend who's parents had 3 of their 4 children end up type 1 so it really weighs on my mind.
Did you check her BG or her ketones? I don't think my 3 year old would let me do her BG!

Devil's advocate.....I think Ava's jelly shoes are really cute, and I desperately wanted a pair when I was around age 6-8, but my parents wouldn't buy them for me.
