One night Reno and Mataea are chatting when Reno says he has a way of finding out who Mataea is and what has been done to her over the years. Mataea had finally spilled the beans about the experiments and surgeries performed on her, and now Reno was worried. Mataea goes with Reno back to her room where he hacks onto Shinra's database, allowing them access to top secret files. Here, Mataea discovers she had been injected with Jenova cells and another kind of cell, "C-cells". She is very upset by the news and continues to search through files late into the night, trying to find out what she can about Jenova and these "C-cells". She is unable to uncover anything about the C-cells, but is still devastated by the Jenova cells.

As time goes on, Mataea's depression disappears, and she is able to accept the fact that she has the cells of an alien being inside of her. However, she finds herself wishing to leave Shinra more than ever. One day Reno asks Mataea if she'd ever asked Rufus if she could go outside. Mataea says she has not, and Reno says she should. Thinking it's too simple, Mataea is doubtful, but tries anyway. To her amazement, Rufus is angered to know Hojo had never let her outside and Rufus says they are allowed, as long as they don't go far.

Mataea is not happy when she finally steps foot outside onto the streets of Midgar. Having been used to the beauty of the plants in the conservatory, Mataea does not find herself at home in the garbage-filled alleyways of the city, nor does she hear the flowers calling to her like she had wished. Mataea decides that she must run away, and asks Reno to look away. He does, and Mataea makes a break for it, but the Turks had been watching them the entire time, and she is caught and taken back to Shinra. Hojo yells at her, telling her she will never see Reno again. Devastated, Mataea no longer feels a will to live, and jumps out the window of her bedroom on the 68th floor of the Shinra building.

@EpicFailOnline You're right, and to be honest I thought about the storyline for this years ago, and it's definitely not perfect. This is partially why I have nearly given up on it. But I mainly said she was a SOLDIER because of Hojo's experiments on her... She was made to live up to this title, and be the best ever because of the potency of her Jenova cells, but she never does... Hence she is later deemed a failure. But you're right, the storyline is far from perfect.

It's extremely well made, but your timeline is pretty messed up and that makes it hard to piece things together in the big scheme of things ... also, I don't get how Mataea was a SOLDIER (let alone a first class) and yet never allowed outside since SOLDIERS need to complete missions and whatnot ...
