Oscar bit me while I was talking on the phone- he HATES it when I'm on the phone and I wasn't paying attention. Parrots bite- I cannot blame him for being a parrot. People think it's easy and all fun and games having parrots, but in actuality, it's A LOT of hard and CONSTANT work and things like this happen all the time.

Please note that I strongly believe parrots do NOT make suitable pets. They are essentially wild animals that belong in the wild. I am against breeding and the sale of birds for the pet trade. Unfortunately, just because they are born in captivity does not mean they are not wild animals- it just means they cannot survive in the wild. Breeders who say they are preserving species by breeding are not telling the truth. How many breeders release their birds into the wild? None. They are only ensuring that more and more parrots will be showing up in more and more rescues/shelters and sanctuaries across the country. These animals were not meant to be in our homes- they were meant to be flying free in the wild. If you would like a parrot as a pet, please do extensive research beforehand and ADOPT ONLY! There are WAY too many unwanted and perfectly wonderful parrots in need of good homes. Charlie, Jasper, and Oscar were all adopted and they are amazing, lovable, extraordinary creatures. • geez... What are you going to do about it???? How about get away from him when you talk on the phone!!!!!

  • @vegbeauti I know. I forgot that one time. Has never happened again (3 yrs and counting).

  • Were you crying? Can't say I blame you - I've had my cockatiels bite me in the wrong places and my eyes start watering. I own a snake and lizards and by far I'd rather have my snake bite me than my little cockatiel...

  • @ColdBloodedLadyJ I can't remember if I was crying. I may have been before I started the video, but I can't remember. It was over 3 years ago. Lol!

  • If you can't handle a parrot, you shouldn't have one! Just don't say they are not good pets! If a parrot bites, then you have not done your home work. It's true, they are not for everybody, but are wonderfull pets!

  • @1956VALENTIN Every parrot bites. I've taken care of over 300 parrots at a sanctuary. I think I know exactly what I'm doing. If people want a parrot as a pet, they should adopt from a rescue or shelter. That is what I am saying. All three of mine are adopted.

  • You are right about most per stores, however the pet store that I go to actually cares about who is buying the birds and do warn about the different problems that you can encounter: such as, biting, screaming, not liking other birds on the house etc. they are also very knowledgable about the bird species and explain how most Problems develop and some possible ways to fix them. I go to Bird Paradise in Burlington, NJ. I would very much love to adopt, need a bigger place first though lol. I'd

  • @KerryChapie If your birds beak was not clean, you may have a horrible infection brewing. Often times soft foods create a residue that harbors bacteria. If that is pushed into your finger, meets your blood stream, you could find your self in real danger. Just sayin' Good idea to keep your birds beak clean with a warm washcloth. All of mine love to have their beaks cleaned.

    you may need antibiotics...

  • My amazon hates when I get on the phone, it is time away from him, is how he looks at it. Good blog. I can relate to the emotions that were so obvious going through your mind. It hurts more not at the wound but much deeper because they bond so closely with humans. It becomes as emotional as being hit by the spouse. They lash out like children. It is all about attention. Bird ownership=blood loss if more people understood that from the beginning, there wouldn't be so many in shelters.

  • I got a ringneck yesterday and he latched on to my hand.. Im immune to animal bites as working in rescue I get bitten alot and find ferret bites are by far the worst.

  • My umbrella almost bit my index finger off. I found out he does not like scissors. Recycled bird, and he was abused. I have no feeling in my finger its swollen and still purplish after a week of healing.

  • parrots bite... cats scratch! some animals are worth a little inevitable injury, hehe

  • guys that just an paint

  • @parrots4life Just as I told you, this is not true! My parrot doesen't bite. Not a one time for 13 years! Biting , as everything else is a behavior and has a reazon! If someone reinforces the behavior , than you'll get it! The thing is not to provoke it, not to teach your bird tu bite. That's all! There is not a secrets about it!
