The Merseys were formed after the breakup of The Merseybeats and were produced by Kit Lambert who was also producing The Who.
After charting with Sorrow , The Merseys followed this up with So Sad About Us , a Pete Townshend song originally recorded by The Who. The Merseys single version did not chart.

1966 Sorrow / Some Other Day
1966 So Sad About Us / Love Will Continue
1966 Rhythm Of Love / Is It Love
1967 The Cat / Change Of Heart
1967 Penny In My Pocket / I Hope You're Happy
1968 Lovely Loretta / Loretta Dreaming

  • i often play who version but have not heard this for years and really enjoyed it.Their I stand accused should have been a huge hit

  • @hawkmoon03111951 I`m afraid you are wrong . The Who`s second album was released in the UK in Dec 1966 ( recorded Sept - Nov 1966 ) . And this song was given to The Merseys by Kit Lambert who also produced it and as he had also produced The Who`s album he obviously had access to the song before Dec 1966 .

  • @lundehund44 yeah the who and the jams cover is better and townsend and weller live is awesome

  • it's missing something. Substance I think.

  • @DAVBORO With the exception of Keith Moon, who are these guys?

  • Hey, these two, but particularly Tony Crane (the dark haired one) were very good looking and not wearing too badly these days, considering they are over 65. This is a cracking song. It didn't do too well in the charts, but then, the best music never does.

  • This song came out in the summer of 1966, when I was 15 and I loved it from the first hearing and still do. I don't remember the Who version. The flip side is called "Love will continue" and my vinyl version from that time is well and truly knackered and distorted so I no longer play it but I will never forget it. My boyfriend of that year would instantly know it was me if he ever read this comment so I won't mention that his name was Gavin.

  • @45rpmSINGLES You're quite right. Don't know why I put 67. I bought the LP when it came out. Who Sell Out came out in 67. It was still too early for David Bowie in 64 65. Bowie did cover the Mersey's 'Sorrow' on his 'Pin Ups' LP.
