This video was funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO).

Sims Recycling Solutions is located in West Chicago, Illinois and is part of the largest electronics and metals recycling corporation in the world. Sims provides some repair and sales of refurbished computers, but deconstructs and recycles many thousands of tons of electronics each year using a mechanized sorting and separating system.

Sims Recycling Solutions provides complete protection of data for equipment that is remarketed as well as that which is recycled. Items with reuse potential are cleansed following the guidelines detailed by the US Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology in Special Publication 800-88 - Guidelines for Media Sanitization. Hard drives and the data on them that are not suitable for reuse, either because of client request or technology/functionality traits, are destroyed via shredding, as recommended in the US Department of Defense Manual 5220.22-M, National Industrial Security Program Operating Manual.

  • @RussellTuan this year 550 repair old computer for poor children live in remote area have been accomplished..in 2007 we have a peek 3800 sets accomplished, most of then from government, and some from individual.it start from 2006.

  • @RussellTuan I live in Venezuela, I believed that recovering old computers and digital hardware and use them to provide learning tools for poor public schools in remote areas is an excellent way to a address 2 problems at once, I would like very much to know about the experience that Taiwan has in that area. Greetings

  • @TheMurty01 here in Taiwan,we repair old computer for poor children live in remote area.I personal went to junk yard to pick up parts for my project, I could find 80% useful item out of those need to be threaded.one people's junk is another's useful parts.a old CRT TV could last more than 30 yrs if proper maintain.don't like LCD TV would not last that long.you can see my video that I fix 2 Oscilloscopes 25 yrs old,and they go strong next 25yrs to come.

  • @RussellTuan

Copy and paste that onto every video why dont you, guess what, if theres more profit in fixing them, they would, its all about money remember that, recycling brings you much higher yields. Why fix something thats obsolete, that a small percentage of people may consider using? There is a massive volume of electronics, no one can reuse it all.
