  • Santa Maria Maggiore is a BASILICA, not a CATHEDRAL. The Cathedral of Rome (where the Bishop of Rome has this chair=cathedra) is San Giovanni in Laterano. Please, correct the mistake.

  • done. thanks; and. . .

  • this is a composite -- the stills that

open the video are just outside the villa

borghese, and the church itself is about

a mile away -- it is in a large square

just north of the colleso, and south of

the train station, by about a half mile. . .

i honestly have forgotten the name. . .

    st. maria de. . . something. . .

    he he! sorry. . .

  • It is . Though it is not the Cathedral.

    That is St. John Lateran

  • Love the orange plastic chairs

  • I stand corrected...please forgive me. In my haste to reply I did not notice you say this is St Mary Maggorie. Love that one also, I've attended Mass there. the chapel is quite beautiful. Thanks

  • thanks for the info, actually,I've been there and plan to go back sept 2007. My favorite painter,Fra Angelico is buried there under a very simple floor sculptured tomb. Also the body of St Catherine of Seina is in a glass coffin under the altar table.she is inside a white marble sculpture. Her head was removed and is on display in a church in Siena. St Sophra Minerva is a beautiful gem of a church, I mean bascila.love it.

  • This is not a cathedral, nor is it Santa Maria sopra Minerva. It is the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the Patriarchal Basilicas of Rome. It is the oldest church in the world dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and contains a purported relic of the manger. St Jerome is buried there, although no one is quite sure where!

  • so,which cathedral is this? Beautiful video,thanks
