  • Marion had more class. Betty was spastic. LOL

  • what happened to Marion? She is beautiful too and she can sing like a bird -

  • @mkrobinson95 -the question is ...who are you? Sounds like nothing more than someone who's a fan, truth is you know nothing about either of these great women. Marion was my favorite.

  • The pain of family tragedies can cause real hurt down the generations which can just go on burning. Neither Marion nor Betty would have wanted that. Perhaps discussions with an experienced family mediator can help prevent more unnecessary damage and help start the healing. Blood is thicker than water, when all said and done. Consider forgiving human frailties and mistakes?

  • @hemming57 - have you ever read the TIME magazine article with Betty on the cover as "Annie"? There is a quote from your grandmother about the jealousy ...

"Betty was jealous of her sister right from the start. She was always in my lap, always after affection. She would stand on her head, do cartwheels, yell or do anything to attract attention away from her quieter sister."

I appreciate you engaging me in this discussion.

  • @mkrobinson95 My mother left this world with a lot of friends. Everybody liked her. But she was also very good in hiding the dark side of her personality. Betty's ego and ambition rubbed people the wrong way. Betty was a control freak. But that's typical of show business. Then when you're down, there's no one to help you up. Some people can handle that and some can't. Betty couldn't. I fell more sorry for her daughters. And yes, they didn't attend the funeral.

  • @mkrobinson95 Well, I grew up only hearing my mother's story. I've learned she was always very jealous of Betty. Betty always got the attention, Betty had the success. If my mom got her mother a present. Betty got her something 100 times more expensive. Yet Betty writes in her bio that it was Marion who always got the attention. Jeez, where does the truth begin? I still don't know. I never had any problems with Betty. But she was a bitch to lot of people. That's what killed her career.

  • @hemming57 - (continued) - If you read Betty's book, just the part about how Vincent Lopez treated her was enough to scar her in many ways. Then the pill addictions. You say Betty didn't break her addictions, that is true. She did have recovery for a number of years. I don't know about your mother, but many alcoholics have set-backs when the stress of life (& the demons of the past, as you put it, come back now and then), thank God your mom didn't fall back into that trap.

  • @hemming57 - you make fair points here. My problem is you have made comments over the past year here and there, putting Betty in a negative light, without the proper context. For those that do not know Betty and your mother's story, their alcholic mother, the slums they grew up in, etc., it just makes Betty out to be a villain and nothing about Marion. I understand she was your mother, but if to make a comment without balance makes it seem a bit one-sided.

  • @mkrobinson95 A very expensive private gated community. What I'm saying is, take my aunt's bio with a grain of salt. I'm still learning about the family dynamic. The sad thing is that the two of them could have had much better lives had they been able to deal with the demons of their past. Sadly they wouldn't or couldn't. Sad
