Silent 8mm color film from the 60's, which gives a small idea of the private life of the GDR citizens. See the Völkerschlacht monument in Leipzig and the attendance of a festival.

  • I was studying in Denmark in 1990 right after the fall, and I think they moved too fast at reunification. I think they underestimated the infrastructure changes needed. I think they moved to fast on getting rid of the Mark and could have waited even five years to have reunification. I think everyone was excited and wanted to unify but did not take into account that the systems in the DDR since 1949 need to be updated. For example training factories and managers. I pray things get better for them

  • Life is not easy my friend at with globalization jobs leaving to places to pay cheaper labor. I have been to Europe seven times and I like Eastern Europe and culture. I am not a big fan of any governments so now I start an online business people helping people this better then working for big company so I hope to make enough to help with an orphanage. Never give up hope God bless you from Minnesota, ps I have been to Salzburg this was beautiful city

  • @TheGophers11 When I first heard about "reunification" I thought that meant that East and West would merge as equals, but the West took over everything and entirely wiped out all vestiges of East Germany.

Hi Gophers... No, I did not live in the DDR. I was in Austria with a friend who had several friends there that he met at University. He went to East Berlin and told me that the people he spoke with in private were not complaining about their lives. I don't think it was because they feared the police or anything like that. Sadly, the reunification was not the answer to what many East Germans thought would make their lives better.

  • Did you live there?

  • Life there doesn't seem all that terrible after all.

Also gab es schon Ausländer.
