Grillz brings the bling bling to the screen and documents the history and popularity of mouth jewelry in Hip-Hop and beyond. From New York in the early Eighties to the Dirty South and the streets of Amsterdam.

Director

Boris Everts studied at the Art Academy in Utrecht and worked for different television programmes at the VPRO, a Dutch progressive broadcaster. Since than he focused mainly on camera work for a vast array of productions, from music videos to documentaries, from MTV to Fox Kids.

Sander Kerkhof is a freelance journalist. For years he worked as a critic and radio maker for VPRO's famous online music magazine: 3voor12. Sander was closely involved with the development of State Magazine, an online hip hop magazine. Besides for his journalistic work, he is well known for his performances as DJ Sandeman.

@throbule, I was just curious. I meant no offense. I'm familiar with conflict diamonds (and precious metals). I agree totally with your position on ranting on subjects I find distasteful. Many a drunken night I have spent on here only to wonder the next day why someone was sending me argumentative messages. Bling, could be considered a fad (fashion) and yes bad taste in it is spreading through out the world. I don't wear jewelry. (Except a watch and its stainless). The best of life is free :)

@throbule you left this on all the videos? why? What difference does it make to you. I don't know your culture but in the united states (at least before the recession) people would spend a great deal of money on useless pursuits. Wehther it was mudding, buying jewelry or hot rods (or lowriders sound systems etc. ) what have you. America is a very material culture. People fill their lives (their empty space) with stuff to give it meaning. It can be a bad thing but its all they know...
