1UP Acquired by UGO; EGM Closed - Twitter Reactions

http://downloadablesuicide.com/2009/01/07/1up-acquired-by-ugo-egm-closed-twit... The news hit on 1/06/2009 that 1UP.com, MyCheats.com, GameTab.com and GameVideos.com would be sold to UGO.com. EGM has been closed. Many people on the 1UP staff lost their jobs. This news immediately had a profound effect on gamers, not to mention the whole of games journalism. I turned to Twitter just after word of the acquisition hit my RSS feed and watched as the many reactions from both 1UP staffers and other games journalists came in. I've compiled them here in this video.

Well its kind of good that EGM is being put back into publication (according to wikipedia), but it just wont be the same without the original gang that made it so great in the first place.

First issue i got was about, June 2003, rouge rebel squadron 3. O god how happy i was when my parents showed me what they got me, a subscription to the best damn video game magazine there is. Then just today i find out what happened, shame on me for not reading thoroughly threw it. I am now sad today.

damn i just found out today they shut down i had no idea. I had a subscription for about 5 years. i go to get the mail i see the back of a magazine, and i think its egm, and its maxim. And theres a sticker on it saying egm shutdown. Too bad i liked their reviews and just reading it. Fuck.

Its so sad because egm was honestly the only videogame magazine that I truly, truly trusted. And now they are gone. Really sad...egm kinda was childhood to me. I read it every month, front to back, for YEARS. I know they started getting a little shabby over the years, but they were still the best magazine out. Really sad.
