@mattissurf - Not that much off to offer that comment. He has some very nice melodic satements - not regurgitating a bunch of patterns to no effect. I dig what he is playing. He is certainly on top of the changes and not laying on wrong notes - he is resolving all of it. - GREAT playing!

And I have bought myself a brand new Selmer Super Action 80, Series II. I use a metal Otto Link NY 7* and the green Java Vandoren No 2. That suits my style, if I have any. Try to search for "voldenveien" (the name of the street where my cabin is) in YouTube. I have put in a couple of songs for friends to listen. The recording is just with me and the backing, but I'm also playing in a band.

Hi CamTheCat. I'm a swing jazz clarinet player myselv and have just started to play the tenor saxophone. So I'm hunting for tips. Of course jazz players are off in the sence that we are not machines that follow the sheet music. But the way you are off in this old recording is not that kind of off, it's probably caused by you not hearing the backing track. But that was a long time ago...Greetings from Norway.

Which volume is this song take from?
Good playing. But listen more carefully to your backing track, you are often off.

@mattissurf Thanks matt, but I wonder what you mean by "off". I'm on top of the changes, although I sometimes resolve late (on purpose), and I sometimes lay back (also on pupose). The recording device I used is an old digital camera, so the picture is out of sync, and the autolevel dials down the total volume when I'm blowing vs when it's just the recording, so it could be tough to tell where the rhythm section is at at times. That said, it's not my best playing either. This is from 2008. ;)

@decus69 Hi decus, I play a Selmer MK VI and normally use an OttoLink 7* hard rubber mouthpiece (I have a metal 7* too) with a #3 rico reed. Lately I've been playing a lot so I'm using #3 1/2 reeds, which are a bit too hard. I break them in for general use and they last a lot longer than 3's. I have a winslow lig that I like, but mostly I use an old brass lig that fits my mouthpiece really well. ANYWAYS, in this vid I have a vintage Selmer Soloist longshank D mouthpiece with a #3 1/3 reed. :)
