American Heart Association volunteer advocate Libbie Hough today urged Congress to preserve the Affordable Care Act to ensure children with heart disease and other chronic illnesses have access to affordable, quality care.
Hough joined House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-NC) and other members of Congress for a press briefing on Capitol Hill to mark the one-year anniversary of the health reform law. The Hillsborough, North Carolina native's 19-year-old daughter Natalie suffered cardiac arrest about 18 months ago in school. Natalie has LongQT Syndrome, a life-threatening and usually genetic heart condition that unexpectedly claims thousands of lives every year, often with no symptoms or warning signs.
