My thoughts on the second day at the Personal Democracy Forum. Think this over and then go play hooky from work. Your boss told me that it would be okay.
Thanks for sharing. A good collection of thoughts and ideas... a bit raw but still provocative. I think the transformation of the media to a collective community of biased opinions is a good thing. It makes people think twice before accepting everything simply by its face value... could foster revolutions like we're seeing in Iran... and it gives all of us a chance to be part of something new, not just a slave to the selected few media titans.
I agree. Competition is good and healthy. To be the best you have to compete against the best. For a long time media companies thought they knew what was best for us to hear or read. Now they have competition from the internets, and it is pushing them to a new level. And by doing so, we all win...
Not sure I agree with you on totally open communications between competitors, a bit utopian, as you say. Perhaps the answer, as usual, lies somewhere in the middle, rather than in the extremes.
Once again, I love you doing these vlogs (which is a fine word, by the way) and hope you continue to do them.
Are you aware of how FEW people/media giants control the media? Viacom(Sumner Redstone, News Corp(Rupert Murdoch), Sony, GE, Time Warner, Disney, Comcast, Liberty Media, Vivendi, and Bertelsmann make up a huge percentage of the TOTAL media.
By keeping this following, you have the ability to try new things, like your webcasts, and get instant feedback. By interacting the way you do, seeking feedback, you can learn and improve in a more direct way.
You have a great personality that always comes through, and you seem very genuine which is of greater value.
Old media will not die, but find a way to blend into the new. I look forward to watching your success as you stake your claim in the new media world.
I'm just gonna do my own brain dump here and see what comes of it.
I find it hard to think macro, and get the big picture. I know what I like, my habits are, and what interests me. I know its good to keep the rest of the world in mind, but it is a very big place. There are so many choices out there now.
I think it is important for you to maintain who you are and what you are about. In this way, you will have a following of those who wish to get their news and info from you, at least in part.

I hope you do more of these in the near future.
