As reports of charities being hard hit by the recession abound, one small charity set up by TVs Secret Millionaire, Emma Harrison is working to make sure other small charities are strong enough to keep their doors open with free training and expertise in fundraising. Conferences like the one being hosted by Credit Suisse in Londons Canary Wharf on 1st October are usually inaccessible because of high fees for small organisations. Its why the FSI is bringing the likes of Kay Sprinkel Grace, international fundraising guru to help those who need it the most.
The brightest of philanthropic ideas and greatest of innovative minds will be brought together, including world renowned, San Francisco based Kay, author of five must read fundraising books, Richard Turner of Action Aid and Marian Rose of Save the Children. The Forum will also host the draw of the winning small charity car draw ticket. Also run by the FSI, the small charity car draw is helping over 400 small charities raise over £100,000 by selling £2 tickets to their supporters to be in with a chance of winning a Fiat 500 provided by Zurich Insurance.
Pauline Broomhead, FSI CEO said Its important we use all the time we have now to prepare small charities to handle any eventuality. Showing them how they can access other funding streams and inspiring them to keep going are, for the FSI, the crucial success factors.
97.4% of charities in the UK are small (166,529) and yet they only receive 25.2% of the sectors £33.2 billion each year. This means of course that 2.6%, the largest household charity brands are attracting 74.8% of all donations.
