July 1, 2008.
Today marks the 150th year anniversary of the first reading of Darwin and Wallace's Theory of Evolution through Natural Selection. This milestone was followed one year later by the publication of Darwin's On the Origin of Species which changed the way we think about all life on earth, including ourselves.

@workergirls Gravity is a more dangerous theory. After all, you can actually kill someone if you drop them from too high up. Let's not forget atomic theory which gives rise to many poisons which can and has killed millions during WW2 alone. The theory of relativity gave rise to the atomic bomb. Guns use physics and chem. What's your point? That small changes over time can somehow be used for evil? Dangerous =/= wrong, nor does is mean it can't be used for good. Keep that in mind.

Brilliantly written, Brilliantly read. Words and ideas also have a life of their own. Each time we write, we give birth to an idea. Each time we read, we replicate the idea. Ideas like Darwin's are fit for survival. Other, unfit ideas will gradually be discarded to make room in the body of knowledge for only those that belong.

I have an audio tape made 49 years ago from the "100 Years Without Darwin" conference that I will transcode into MP3 format. Perhaps I'll put it on the 'net. In the USA we still ignore evolutionary theory in many public schools.
