If the black congress people believed in true equality, why would they need a group that allowed mainly blacks, with the sole purpose of advancing benefits for blacks?

Check your history - it was the Republicans that freed the slaves - Democrats fought for their "right" to keep slaves. To this day Democrats try and enslave blacks by making them reliant on government instead of themselves.

This is why Democrats enjoy huge support from blacks - they have been trained - handouts for votes.

@conspiracy777 that was 150 years ago lol. the parties have changed places. for over 100 years the southern states have been republican, which includes the times of racism and segregation of the civil righs movements. Either way the south is today much more racist than other parts of the country and it is definitely republican

The real shame here is that the black community and the populace in general has been led to believe that the republican party has been the evil racist oppressors. The opposite is the truth.

Yes the Repubs of the past were more in touch with minorities then they are now. I've been trying to find out why they switched views myself. But even so, freeing the slaves wasnt the main reason for the Civil War, it was the Industrial Revolution initially.
