have to agree with dukeofpearl. the inline four are a superior ride for the full on racing experience. i was left uninspired by the 09 r1. sounds bad (unless caned) and a little too rider friendly. the whole idea of a 1000cc is something to get your teeth into more surely? dont get me wrong its a good bike. but having ridden sport litres for well over a decade. yamaha fall short on this model. the 07 was a brilliant machine. 09.. well... TOO SAFE and dare i say it.. politically correct!?

rooter639 ------ Have you ridden the 09 model? Little rider friendly? No no my friend. As a matter of fact, the 09 R1 is more scary to ride than the previous models. Why? Because the throttle response is so freaking fast. The throttle is very sensitive compare to previous models. Also, did you know that the 09 model is way heavier than the previous models? Which means, more weight. more harder to ride. Traditional inline4 has more horse power, but the crossplane is a whole diff. story.

i have ridden it. thats why i'm commenting!!??? i know about all the technical stuff bro. and it is a well thought out planned bike. it just didn't float my boat. dont forget its all about personel taste. i track day my bikes so ride them very hard. and IN MY OPINION i got more of a thrill off previous years. and come on..you must admit that an 07 is waaaaaay sexier!! happy riding. ;-)

This is a very powerful and dangerous bike. My uncle (27 years) totaled his bike. Let's say it went under a SUV and he got 3rd degree burns. ( he had an 07/06 r1).
