In a recent conversation I taped with Dr. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention, Republican strategist Ed Rogers, and two journalists -- Newsweek's Evan Thomas and New York Magazine's John Heilemann -- we engaged in the parlor game of the moment: speculating about whom Sen. John McCain might pick as his running mate.




Dr. Land wants to see a Vice President Condoleezza Rice, John Heileman thinks Huckabee is still viable, Ed Rogers brought up former Ohio congressman John Kasich, and Evan Thomas chose not to play the game...Here is that conversation.

the Republicans want Hillary to be in the White House. neither party would survive consecutive terms because the people clammer for the other party. 8 years of any party drives us mad. This is all part of Karl Roves strategy to get us all to be Republicans. to do that you have to bite the bullet and let the Dems win, then destroy them in time for the next election/Arnold.

This man who is endorsing Huckabee has great sense. I think America wants Huckabee. He is the only impressive figure on the ticket.

Rice is too close to Bush. This would be suicide. Beside, some people don't want a woman. Will we have no choice. Noone tied to Bush should be on the ticket.

McCain and Condoleeza Rice would be a great ticket except she is very detested by millions of Americans who don't trust her based on her loyalty and alignment to Bush. There is a big perception that she has been lying and dishonest to our country left and right during the last 7 years to save Bush's ass. I think McCain knows better than that although he is not much different than Bush himself.

This is an absolutely stupid idea which presumes the public is stupid: that they really would vote for someone primarily because she is a black female. Norm Coleman?
