A small ion thruster made from tin foil and wire. Decent thrust despite being crude.

  • That is awesome! Like a TIE Fighter...is this simple to make?

  • @SamuraiPirate88 I think so. It is powered by a small 12 volt transistor oscillator driving a flyback transformer out of an old TV.

  • What's voltage did you use?

  • @PoliomanGamer I was probably using something in the range of 40,000 volts.

  • Can you tell us how to make one

  • @therammak The thruster works because of the shape. It is just a ring for a cathode with a anode probe inside. When you apply high voltage DC, the energy flows in one dirrection from anode to cathode and ionized air moves with it.

  • @drbackjack ))) ... don't take it too close. You see, I am foreigner and I have found something strange in american language for me.

  • @Tmaker197812

No one likes a smart ass.

  • It does not make much sence to call aluminum foil - tin foil. These are different chemical elements )))

  • try using two circular framed meshes (one copper one aluminium) in front of eachother!

  • It smells good...yum

  • Cool!
