High on Fire - Snakes for the Divine ALBUM REVIEW

Snakes for the Divine is still a bucket of goodness from High on Fire. My first initial thought was the flat sound compared to their earlier workings. I understand they went more for a cleaner sound on this one, but part of me really loves the bassy, sludgey sound. It didn't quite "punch" like I would of liked. The songs are quite good! They incorprated some new elements along with some old for sure! Overall, its a good record. Not my favorite from them, but the direction they are going is still true to old High on Fire, but from here I can only see good things!

7.5/10

  • i love how mike has thrown in melodic riffs into this fast burning sludgy band. i totally agree with what you said about the drums, its varied and powerful. this is an excellent album

  • im a huge fan of high on fire and this album was amazing to me 5/5. nobody comes close to matt pikes riffs.

  • @jumblejunkiemusic agreed

  • i had no problems with the production. this is one of my fave albums this year

  • Turn down the GEEK from 10 to 2.

  • what i like about this band is that they countinue to progress

  • the last record is called death is this communion NOT death is this communication. get it right, man.

  • Their first album is their dirtiest or rawest sound the produced, their second is a powered version of the first, the third is the heaviest, the fourth is their most epic, and this one is a continuation of that one but the style is more live and up front and the only thing that I find wrong with it is that it gets like you said some of the tracks get a bit tedious and drawn out. The record is like a roller coaster ride

  • This record is my introduction to High and Fire and the music of Matt Pike. I gotta say, I'm not too impressed. There's alot here that just seems so generic. The production is interesting, but it doesn't save the music. I'll definitely be looking into earlier High on Fire, I heard it's way more hardcore than this.

Maybe I'll come back to this in a couple weeks....
