KEY LARGO (1948)

In Maxwell Anderson's hit stage play, KEY LARGO, John Huston directs an all star cast headed by Humphrey Bogart and Edward G. Robinson in a dark film noir set in the Florida Keys during a hurricane. Rounding out the cast are Lauren Bacall in her last film with Bogie, Lionel Barrymore, Thomas Gomez and Claire Trevor in an Oscar winning role as Robinson's drunken moll. Shot in beautiful black & white with an atmospheric score by veteran Max Steiner and under Huston's typical fast paced and crisp direction, it's a suspense filled drama that's not to be missed.

Interesting how Bogart appeared in four movies about people holed up with a criminal: "Petrified Forest", "Key largo", "Desperate Hours", and another "Petrified Forest" for tv.

Claire Trevor gave a heartbreaking performance in Key Largo and totally deserved the Oscar. The scene of her standing all alone and singing makes you want to jump through the screen and hug her and take her away from her awful situation with Johnny. Of course the whole cast is great, filled with Hollywood icons. Another great review Steve. You just crack me up.

The only reason to watch Key Largo is indeed Claire Trevor!

This is by far my favorite movie with Bogie and Lauren Bacall together. Claire Trevor is so smypathetic in this, it's no wonder she got an Oscar. Edward G. Robinson is brilliant as always and the tension this movie creates to my mind is second to none.

Great selection Steve,I think I'm gonna go watch my DVD of this again, it's been awhile.
