KEY LARGO (1948)

In Maxwell Anderson's hit stage play, KEY LARGO, John Huston directs an all star cast headed by Humphrey Bogart and Edward G. Robinson in a dark film noir set in the Florida Keys during a hurricane. Rounding out the cast are Lauren Bacall in her last film with Bogie, Lionel Barrymore, Thomas Gomez and Claire Trevor in an Oscar winning role as Robinson's drunken moll. Shot in beautiful black & white with an atmospheric score by veteran Max Steiner and under Huston's typical fast paced and crisp direction, it's a suspense filled drama that's not to be missed.

  • The only reason to watch Key Largo is indeed Claire Trevor!

  • do a vid for The Sandpiper (1965) Richard Burton/Elizabeth Taylor! One of Liz's best performances. I love that one...

  • This is by far my favorite movie with Bogie and Lauren Bacall together. Claire Trevor is so smypathetic in this, it's no wonder she got an Oscar. Edward G. Robinson is brilliant as always and the tension this movie creates to my mind is second to none.

Great selection Steve,I think I'm gonna go watch my DVD of this again, it's been awhile.

  • Steve - great review as usual. I'm glad you pointed out the whispering; it's gotta be the FILTHIEST thing ever put on celluloid! Love ya, Steve!

  • Excellent review.

  • I haven't seen this movie in a long time, but I think that I will pick it up again. John Huston was an absolute genius as a director. He was a real artist at film making. My favorite John Huston movie is "The Night of the Iguana" which was beautifully filmed and all of the cast went above and beyond with their characters. I never appreciated Richard Burton as an actor until I saw him in that movie. Great review, as usual, Steve. Can hardly wait for the next one.

  • Thanks for another great review!

  • This is my second favorite Bogart movie, thank you for reviewing it, Steve! As always, your insight gives me a fresh take on my favorites. Hope you have a wonderful new year!

  • I love my fortnightly dose of Steve! please come and appear in London!

  • Great choice Steve!
