The House Judiciary Committee today had planned to vote on SOPA, the Stop Online Piracy Act. But considering that the hearing went on for 5 or 6 hours and only a few amendments out of 60 had even been debated, thankfully it doesn't look like this will pass anytime soon. We'll take a closer look at what the key sponsors of their bill are basing this legislation off of with CNET's Declan McCullagh.

  • @SonicTheSwordsman I think i will still watch theatre, but i don't buy dvd/blueray or cd's anymore. Since i heard of this bill. I also boycot Apple and Sony products for simular corruption

  • I officially declare that i am taking my television and smashing it and I will never watch a movie in theatres ever again until shitty bills like this stop. I dont care how awesome it looks i will not go see it! ARE YOU WITH ME!?

  • @Elizabeththegreatest well this makes me want to never go to the movies ever again, or buy any cd's. EVER again.

  • @Elizabeththegreatest

Holywood is destroying itself fighting for SOPA. They're essentially destroying their biggest source of free advertising, which means fewer people are going to know about what they have to offer, which means LESS money for them in the long term. Gotta love how stupid the rich can be, huh?

  • Bet'cha didn't know that CNET (Owned by CBC/Viacom) is actually into piracy distribution, just go to its download page and the software is right there!!!

  • What would happen if the internet was given the SOPA treatment*

Raywilliamjohnson, smosh, fred etc would commit suicide because they get money from youtube.

  • To tell the truth I don't see this passing. And if it does it wouldn't last long.

  • remember when they tried to divide the world in 5 regions for dvd, and crypto the dvd stream???

they did not learn the lesson, and tried to do the same thing in Blue ray...

both tries resulting in more and more piracy... I, for example never ever buy a dvd from sony, sansung... I buy chinese ones (or philips build in china) that plays ALL dvds, and blue ray disks... Internet was built to be fault tolerant, if one shuts down the root name servers, another set of will take place...

  • it is useless.. in fact, if they try to do this (block the internet or the dns), The hackers will build programs that will create an "alternative" internet by its own. This new internet, instead of reliying on 40 server (root name servers...) will rely on milions of name servers, and so it will be impossible to shut them down.. soon will be created a "new google" in that "alternative" internet. no control at all, resulting in worst situation as now
