  • I agree! I am 53 years old and trust me back my day when this song was played in the clubs; everyone was up on the dance floor jamming to the Planet Rock. I would sit and wait for them to play this song, so I could dance. You are right, there has and never will be another like the Rock (as we called it back in my day). I have my grandsons dancing to this every weekend. I go back in time in my mind and dance my butt off. This is one of the many songs that keep me in shape. BE BLESSED!

  • Bambaataa with their recognition of the crazy german kids and their drum machines. thumbs up to these pioneers.

  • @KingColins

btw i think this fairlight synthesizer "sampler" had only 3 or 4 sounds

handclaps , orchestra and some other

  • @KingColins

copy and paste sounds , thats what i mean ..aka sampled sounds

  • @zer0nable A synthesizer with pre-sounds recorded inside it by definition is a sampler. I think what you mean is the first sampler with sequencing capabilities(even that is uncertain). As pre recorded samplers were around in the 70s. Well, drummachines were a staple of early hip hop, actually a lot of the music of that period. And technically, a drum machine is another form of sampler. But I understand what you mean, it is not like they just copy and pasted the sound like one can do today.

  • you can call it 'Cover' of the Synthesizer Riff but not sampled

  • @KingColins

its NO Sample , the first real sampler came out 1983 with a Price of 100.000 $ or something

they played with a own 808 drummachine and synthesizer with pre-sounds

  • This takes me back - In 1982 I was a 13 yr ugly duckling growing up in South London trying to find my way, lost amid a torrent of shite 80's pop music. Then I knocked on my best mate Steve Nash's door and he looked out of his bedroom window, whacked his stereo on and blasted this bad boy out. I had found my path to enlightenment, I was the most badass mofo swan that had ever lived...Rock on

  • Trailer park boys season 3 episode 3 hahaha

  • This was featured in a stage number (I think it was a doctor-patient piece) with a strobe light at Munger Middle School in southwest Detroit, when I was in 7th grade in 1982. Some students also kept playing the boogie-down song (by Earth, Wind, and Fire) in winter, just before school started, on the auditorium piano...almost ad infinitum.

  • @Discfiend69 The song I can understand. We all know it's a kraftwerk sample. However, to say these two men started the genre, those are some bold statements. The father of hip hop is generally recognized to be Dj Kool herc. As even Bambaataa and numerous others said they wouldn't have started what they were it not for him. You might want to elaborate on what you mean by "genre". The better term would be contributors; of which hip hop has had many.

  • Don't forget! The music was made by Arthur"SHAKIN"Baker and John"BODYMECHANIC"Robie, Who happened to BITE most of the idea from the masters...KRAFTWERK!

Bambaataa contributes the vocals only. But most people don't want to believe that this genre was heaved into reality by a guy who looks like a biker(Baker) and his counterpart(Robie) who were just a couple of guys trying to get the most people into their dance clubs back in the early 80's.
