The best film critic ever. Criminally underrated.
Him and Mark Kermode are my heroes.

Kim really should be on TV more, such a great critic.

I just found out that Kim went to the same university as I'm at now, and did the same course. This footage is great by the way, it's interesting to hear him talk about Watchmen (which is a great book).

I review as well!
check my posts!

Fuck the haters, Kim Newman rules

@pdw2309 They did one for The Dead Zone, and they have recently done one for Suspiria which is out now on Blue ray and DVD.

I love Newman's work, i was first attracted to his style of writing in his subversion of fantasy genre in the Warhammer Fantasy Genieve series under the pseudonoym Jack Yeovil. Newman is sadly a relativley obscured author here in Australia and his works are even less known. It is almost impossible to get his works here and all my English teachers and even authors don't know him.
I was more than excited that the Anno Dracula series was to be reptinted along with his new work johhny Alucard.

Kim Newman is great!

@vampyr1960 The one he does with Alan Jones for The Bird with the Crystal Plumage is teriffic.

@vampyr1960 Kim Newman award winning author of horror fiction (a large number of which dealing specifically with vampires), long standing writer on horror and fantasy fiction, genre film critic for good few years and he isn't an expert???
Who is then? You don't have to agree with what he has to say but you could at least recognise he is more qualified than most to say it.
Come on guys. I put this up because it's history in the making and slightly funny, not to encourage a Let's Kick Newman thread.
The man's a genius of quirk. And he used to live near me. That's two reason's to celebrate him.
Also, constant reviews in Video Watchdog, his book Nightmare Movies and the invention of Dr Terror on BBC2!
He is Legend.

Kim Newman rules.
His criticism is awesome, his fiction is awesome -- and his moustache is awesome. ;)
It's a shame his work never caught on in North America the way Neil Gaiman's did, because he's just as good.
I think of him as Neil's opposite in terms of fiction: Gaiman always writes from a timeless mythological perspective.
Newman tends to be more of a pop culture guy, and manages to be just as timeless in his own way. 'Anno Dracula' also rules.

Funny you should mention Anno Dracula - the person who taped this off of TV is one of Kim's theatre mates who is actually mentioned in the opening 'thank you' in that book. No names, of course, Kim would be furious at him for lending me the video and putting it on youtube. :)
I'm sure he won't mind, though. If a critic can't critique his own performance....
