Tig Welding Techniques Steel Lap Joint and Butt Joint

Tig welding techniques for lap joints and for butt joints are not that much different.
When you are Tig welding hot rolled carbon steel, you really need to grind the mill scale off to make it weld clean. Tig welding cold rolled is easier because it does not need to be cleaned.

for what applications would you use that large cup for? im guessing it has a gas diffuser in it. something to do with sheilding gas coverage?

yes it has a wire screen diffuser along with gas lens collet body. its mainly good for titanium, and all superalloys.

also stainless food service, stainless steel headers and exhaust components, and anything you want to remain shiny after welding

forgot to mention, the main reason i used it for the video was to make sure the arc could be seen. i can extend the electrode over an inch with the big cup and sometimes that provides for a better camera angle...whatever it takes, right?.

That TIG finger looks like a folded-over piece of braided S.S. shielding you'd find over teflon hose. It's sort-of a metal version of the Chinese finger trap. I'm sure the unit on WT&T's glove is custom-sized and terminated, but if you don't have the budget and have Red Green's junk collection, maybe you can come up with one. Just saw their website, and $10 plus shipping is a decent price.
